The Native Sedum Seed Mix brings together four resilient Pacific Northwest stonecrops: Sedum divergens (Cascade Stonecrop), Sedum lanceolatum (Lanceleaf Stonecrop), Sedum oreganum (Oregon Stonecrop), and Sedum spathulifolium (Broadleaf Stonecrop). These drought-tolerant succulents are naturally found on rocky slopes, cliffs, and dry, well-drained soils, often forming colorful mats that change hue with the seasons.
Together, these species create a dynamic, low-maintenance groundcover that thrives in tough conditions where other plants may struggle. They are ideal for rock gardens, green roofs, container plantings, and dry slopes. Each species offers a unique form and seasonal flair: S. divergens with its copper-red fall tones, S. lanceolatum with its star-shaped yellow blooms, S. oreganum with its tight mats of rounded leaves, and S. spathulifolium with its silvery rosettes and bright flowers.
Propagation is easiest by cuttings or division, though seeds may also be used. Seed germination is slow and variable, requiring light for best results. For success, sow on the soil surface without covering, keep moist until established, and avoid overwatering. In addition to their ornamental value, sedums support pollinators such as native bees, butterflies, and hoverflies when in bloom. Once established, they require little water, making them excellent for xeriscaping and climate-resilient gardens.
