Douglas Meadowfoam (Limnanthes douglasii) is native to California and Oregon, and in the wild is specifically found in wetland habitats, including seasonally wet meadows, vernal pools, and along stream banks. It is, however, a highly adaptable plant and can tolerate most settings if provided with adequate moisture through flowering.

The showy white or cream petals are offset by a vibrant burst of yellow in the center, creating a beautiful contrast. Douglas Meadowfoam typically blooms in the spring, from April to June, when its flowers can blanket the landscape. The flowers are specifically adapted for pollination by bees, butterflies, and other insect pollinators. The bright yellow center of the flower acts as a visual cue, guiding them towards the nectar-rich rewards.

Douglas Meadowfoam thrives in moist to wet, but well-drained soils, preferably with sand and high organic content. For germination, the seeds of Douglas Meadowfoam can be surface sown on prepared soil in the fall or late winter to early spring and covered with sand or fine soil up to 1/4" deep.
