Cascade Stonecrop (Sedum divergens) is a hardy, mat-forming succulent native to western North America, thriving on rocky slopes, cliffs, and in well-drained forest openings. Its small, rounded, fleshy leaves often turn reddish-bronze in summer or under stress, creating a striking contrast to surrounding vegetation. Like other stonecrops, it is highly drought-tolerant, storing water in its leaves and surviving in conditions where many plants fail.

In late spring through summer, Cascade Stonecrop produces dense clusters of bright yellow, star-shaped flowers that attract native bees, butterflies, and hoverflies. This plant is excellent for rock gardens, green roofs, groundcovers, and erosion control, particularly in thin soils or difficult sites. Its spreading habit allows it to stabilize thin soils while adding ornamental value.

Cascade Stonecrop is easy to cultivate, requiring full sun and sharply drained soil to prevent rot. It is very easily propagated from cuttings once established. Seeds are very fine and require light to germinate, so they should be surface-sown, lightly pressed into the soil, and kept evenly moist until established. Misting and bottom-watering are ideal to prevent seed displacement and drying out.
